The Royal Forestry Society, founded in 1882, is a national charity serving England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Its objectives are:
- The advancement and dissemination of the knowledge and practice of forestry, arboriculture and allied sciences.
- The promotion of research in forestry, arboriculture and allied sciences and the publication of the results thereof
The Society publishes the well respected Quarterly Journal of Forestry and organises outdoor meetings at which guests are welcomed.
It also maintains a knowledge based website for the public and compiles and circulates fortnightly E-news.
The Society is divided into twenty-one geographical divisions which cover England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Each has its own elected local committee and sends a representative to Council, with the head office being at Tring in Hertfordshire. The South West region contains four divisions; Southern, Somerset & Dorset, South Western and Gloucestershire. All of these divisions hold regular meetings within their areas.
